"Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own
interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as
they were carried along by the Holy Spirit." (2 Pet. 1:20-21 NIV)
It is sometimes argued that one cannot use the Bible itself to prove that the Bible is the word of
God. They say, "One cannot prove the Bible by the Bible." Their argument makes no sense. If
someone claimed that he had found another writing of William Shakespeare, the contents of the
document (mannerisms, style of writing, choice of words and phrases, etc.) would be the best
proof or disproof of the claim. Men would carefully examine the contents of the writing to
determine the authenticity of the alleged author.
Likewise, if one wanted to determine if the Scriptures are the word of God, the Scriptures themselves should be investigated. The evidence in the Bible is overwhelmingly sufficient to convince all fair-minded people that the Bible is indeed the word of God.
