Speaking the Truth in Love
Respect Authority
All around us we see many people of various ages not respecting their parents, teachers, those in authority, the government and its laws, and our leaders. Let us see what God's Word says about these things.
RESPECT FOR:
1. Fathers (Hebrews 12:9, Ephesians 6:1-3). Respect starts in the home. We parents need to train our children how to show honor and respect.
2. Spouses (Ephesians 5:28-33, 1 Peter 3:1-7)
3. Others (Philippians 2:1-4)
4. Brethren (Ephesians 5:18-21)
5. The older (1 Peter 5:1-7, 1 Timothy 5:1-2, Titus 2:1-4)
Young women respect older women, Young men respect older men. Remember, even when we get older, like me and David, we must honor, respect, and submit to those older and wiser than us (example of Timothy to Paul - Timothy probably between 35-40 years old). We need to be "willing to yield" as James 3:17 shows.
6. Elders and leaders (Hebrews 13:7, 17, 1 Timothy 5:17-18)
7. To civil authorities (Romans 13:7, 1 Peter 2:9-17, James 3:17-18, 1 Tim. 2:1-3). Christians are not to be a rebellious people but rather peaceable.
8. Our Lord and Master (1 Corinthians 11:1-3, Ephesians 5:22-24)
CLOSE
As we honor, respect, and submit to the older and wiser, we continue to learn how to honor, respect, and submit to God's Almighty Authority (James 4:6-10, 1 Peter 5:6-11)
Are you respecting God tonight? Have you submitted completely to Him? One day you will answer to Him (Romans 14:10, 2 Corinthians 5:10, Hebrews 10:26-31). Study the scriptures and obey them. Then you will have comfort and rest (Matt. 11:28-30) and a home in Heaven (John 14:1-3)!
