Speaking the Truth in Love
What Must I Do To Be Saved? (Hear)
HEARING
We want to continue in our series of “What Must I Do To Be Saved”. Tonight we want to focus on hearing and doing what the gospel of Jesus says.
1. Preachers of the gospel want people to simply hear and listen with open hearts (Acts 2:14, 7:2, 15:13, Romans 10:14-17).
2. We need to hear (i.e., turns, pays attention, is inclined to) wisdom (Proverbs 2:2, 22:17)
3. We all need to hear what the Spirit says to the churches (Revelation 2:7, 2:11, 2:17, 2:29, 3:6, 3:13, 3:22)
4. We can hear what we want to hear rather than the truth (2 Timothy 4:1-5, Proverbs 15:31)
5. People can become dull of hearing and stop listening (Matthew 13:13-15, Hebrews 4:14-15, 5:11, Acts 7:54-60, 28:23-28)
6. We must hear carefully (Mark 4:24, John 6:45. Acts 8:5-13, 18:8, James 1:19)
7. Hearing takes effort on our part (Acts 8:30-35, 10:22-33, 11:13-14)
8. Hearing and doing the gospel is critical to salvation (Luke 8:21, 11:28, John 10:27, 1 Timothy 4:16, James 1:21-25, Revelation 1:3)
How about you tonight? Are you sincerely hearing and listening to the gospel of Jesus Christ tonight? Do you believe in Jesus? If you do then you need to take action and be willing to confess that He is the Son of God, acknowledge your sins and repent of them, and then obey Jesus in baptism for the remission of your sins. When we listen properly to the gospel, we hear and do what Jesus says; we become a Christian (Matthew 7:21-24).
The Lord wants you to sincerely hear and truly believe (Acts 15:7). Please consider all these things for yourself. We want you to be saved from your sins and to one day be in Heaven for eternity. We hope to see you next time on, “Speaking The Truth In Love” when we discuss “Believing A Lie”.
