The Mercy of God
THE MERCY OF GOD [live call in: (865) 215-4337]
A definition of mercy is compassion; pity for the undeserving and the guilty. Used both by man and God; lovingkindness; mercy is granted to the faithful. We would like to have a focused study on the Mercy of God tonight.
I. THE POWER OF GOD'S MERCY
A. God's mercy can deliver (Psalm 109:21-31, Luke 1:50)
B. God's mercy comes through Jesus (Ephesians 2:4-6)
C. God's mercy endures forever (Psalm 138:8)
D. God's mercy is longsuffering (1 Timothy 1:13-16)
1. The example of God's mercy toward Ninevah (Jonah 3:1-4:2)
2. The example of God's mercy toward Israel (Matthew 5:10-12, Acts 2:36-39, 3:12-26, 7:35-53)
II. TO OBTAIN MERCY WE MUST SHOW MERCY [Lovingkindness (loving+kind)]
A. Blessed are those who show mercy (Matthew 5:7)
B. Mercy triumphs over judgement (Matthew 9:12-13, 23:23; James 2:13)
C. The example of the good Samaritan (Luke 10:30-37)
D. Peter says that we must do things to obtain mercy (1 Peter 1:5-2:10)
Through faith (1:5), Faith must be tested (1:7), "Therefore gird up your loins" (1:13), Be holy in conduct (1:15), Believe in God (1:21), Be purified in obeying the truth (1:22), Lay aside all evil (2:1), Come to Him (2:4), Believe on Him (2:6-7), Proclaim praises of Him (2:9)
E. God's mercy is conditional! (Exodus 20:4-6, Luke 1:50)
III. THE MERCY OF GOD IS SHOWN IN JESUS CHRIST
A. Because of His great love for us He made us alive with Christ (Eph. 2:4-6)
B. The mercy of the Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life (Jude 20-21)
CONCLUSION
According to His mercy He saved us (Titus 3:1-7). Why not humble yourself to the one who died for you?
